Lucky 7 List: 7 Cool Things To Do In Vegas This Summer
Where To Go, What To Do
UPDATED: 12:48 p.m. EDT May 17, 2004
Believe it or not, Vegas actually slows down a little during the summer months. Part of this
is due to fewer conventions and families taking their time off to go
to Disneyland but some of it absolutely has to be blamed on the
heat. It gets a little hot in Vegas in the summer in case you were
wondering. It's that whole desert thing.
So I've put together one of my "Lucky 7 Lists" -- 7 Cool Things
to Do in Vegas This Summer. It's just a few of the ways you can
still enjoy the town without risking heat stroke. In no particular
order:
Cocktails, Sweetie?
Whether it's at the hotel bar playing video poker or lounging in one of the cabanas poolside (go ahead, splurge) there's just something about sitting around with a big tropical cocktail or an ice cold beer that takes the edge off the heat. Nice Day For A Matinee
There are several worthwhile afternoon shows in Las Vegas including Mac King and Ronn Lucas just to name a couple. But even the afternoon shows that aren't too terrific are usually pretty cheap and always in a nice air-conditioned theater! Click here for a full list of Vegas shows. Abandon The Concrete Jungle
Finding anything resembling shade on The Strip is nearly impossible unless you're in the shadow of one of the hotel towers so why not get away from the concrete and neon and find the cooler parts of town. Lake Las Vegas is nice and you can splash around in the water or take a drive through Red Rock Canyon in your nice cool rental car. Shop 'Til You Drop
With the exception of the outdoor outlet mall near downtown, all of the major shopping centers are totally enclosed and usually frosty cool. Even if you have no intention of spending your hard earned gambling winnings, you can easily while away the hottest hours of the day window shopping. Click here for a list of shopping opportunities in Vegas. You're Way Too Tense
I enjoy tension -- it helps me to get things done. But if you're too stressed by your Vegas vacation perhaps you should consider spending the afternoon in one of the full-service spas. Get a massage, a facial, an aromatherapy treatment, or just sit at the juice bar and drink smoothies! Room Service Anyone?
Yes, there's a lot to do in Vegas but there is absolutely no shame in spending an afternoon enjoying the luxuries your hotel room has to offer -- especially if it's an afternoon when its 115 degrees outside! Order room service, watch a pay per view movie, soak in the tub, or just take a nap. You can go explore when the sun goes down -- it's cooler in both senses of the word. Air Conditioned Amusements
There are a ton of things to do in Vegas that don't involve going outside – except for maybe getting there. Go bowling, visit the indoor amusement park at Circus Circus, do one of the 3-D motion simulators, or go to a museum. Oh, and Vegas also has these indoor things called casinos. You could spend some of your time in one of those. Click here for a list of area attractions.
