Vegas Q&A: How Big Is Megabucks Now?
Question: I was in Vegas for the holidays last year and was just curious if the Megabucks jackpot has been won since then? Liz in Decatur, Ill. Answer: For those who may not be familiar, Megabucks is a series of slot machines throughout the state that are networked together into one progressive jackpot. Just like your local lottery, the more people who play, the higher the jackpot grows until someone finally wins it. The jackpot starts at $7 million and the highest it ever got was just over $34 million, when it was won a few years ago at the Desert Inn by a cocktail waitress. The last jackpot hit was just more than $22 million, and it was won at Bally's in May of this year. As of the moment I'm writing this, the jackpot is about $20 million. You can keep track of how big the jackpot is for this game and many other progressives, including the Wheel of Fortune machines, by visiting the Web site for IGT, the company that manufactures the machines and administers the jackpots.
