UPDATED: 11:10 a.m. CST January 27, 2003

In Natchez, a 640-employee paper mill soon will shut down.

International Paper Co. made the announcement during the weekend. The closure is the latest in a series of shutdowns.

About 103 manufacturers closed their doors last year alone, 10,238 people losing their jobs.

Industry analysts expect even more closures this year.

Gov. Ronnie Musgrove says the state is working to bring more jobs to the Natchez area.
